Design when its for myself, download when its a bit of something thats easy to find like a esp32 or beaglebone case etc. Why reinvent the wheel? Sometimes I draw stuff that seems common but I cant find, then I upload it to thingiverse etc to pay back. My most downloaded model so far that I've uploaded was a suspension upright for a original Tamiya Blackfoot jeep that I modelled after my lad drove it into a wall and broke it and I found out how much genuine parts for classic RC cars cost.
Just found it on thingiverse but its been on loads of places, uploaded date november 2014. Gosh its been awhile... : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:529556
Great, some kids will be happy that their dads can run a new upright off and get them back running, crap like that should be free.
Use a old version of solidworks mostly, which my lad who uses catia at work berates me for constantly because here in aerospace and automotive catia is the defacto software tool, but its quick and easy and via cam packages I can spit gcode out for a variety of machines besides slicing it for the printers, so workflow can be 3dp or co2 laser something and if I'm happy with it being able to mount it physically and see it in situ, commit it to metal if needed.
