Worth checking there is a 13A fuse in the plug end maybe...just in case!

The main thing with using a 13a plug to either a 16a or 32a flylead socket is to keep the cable short and thick. The ones I made up used 4mm arctic cable and are only 6 inches long. Anything else induces voltage drop which means increased current. It is a bit of a mission wiring a 13a plug with 4mm cable but it is the best available option. The heavy duty 13a plugs off amazon are worth the fiver or so they cost.
I have the R Tech 250 and it welds fine at 180 amps with 1.0 wire off a 13a plug. But if I have to use a 13a extension cable (25 metres of 4mm arctic cable) it won’t go over 150 amps without popping fuses and breakers.

Definitely no fuse just a fuse sized bit of copper.
No idea how that got there.
Inrush current on the mill motor blows fuses on high speed
Spin the pulley as I hit start and they don't blow
Don't feel to guilty doing it
Cable doesn't need protecting considering it's bigger than the cable supplying the ring

I don't think there is anything wrong with spinning up a motor before hitting start.
Been many many years since I studied this stuff but I'm pretty sure my lecturer said that was a valid way of reducing the initial current spike? I've forgotten most of that stuff...is that the back EMF...anyone know?
Google is great...yea I think the spin basically creates a back EMF which reduces the current flow. It would happen naturally on startup once the motor starts spinning...but not before the initial current spike that blows the fuse.
So I think conclusion is...you aren't doing anything wrong aside from the risk of a finger in the pulley!

My old denbigh mill is like that. It's a big old 3hp 3ph motor but it currently lives in a damp barn on a farm so I only get to use it once a year or so.
Big leather drive belt that goes stiff so I have to turn the motor a few times by hand to get everything free and moving then open the side cover and try and tug the belt at the same time as pushing the start switch. Once its running I have to wait a couple of minutes for it to loosen up enough to hit full speed. After that it will start fine every time (until the next time I use it a year later!)
You have to stick an arm through a hatch to pull the belt so it does make me thankfull to still have an arm every time I get my hand back out.
The motor has a double pulley but only one belt so I have thought about mounting a second motor with a much lower ratio onto the spare belt way just so I could run that and loosen everything off before starting the main one but it hardly gets used.
I'm hoping to get a 3ph workshop back one day so I will either treat the whole thing to a rebuild or just buy a newer one!
