ESAB 2 years before they decided they were not a technical company they just wanted to be box shifters.
i've moved right away from esab products. Bohler i use now. EV50.
Try ESAB Goldrox, light up really easy, i'd call them a tacking rod. Haven't tried them on AC mind. Or oerlikon.
I have tried a file - this just breaks off big lumps of flux exposing rod as you described.
Cheers Peter. I'll bear them in mind. The nice thing about 6013 is that they do store well.
Got a few Vodex that are nearly as old as I am I reckon and they are bloody lovely. Previous owner died at nearly 90.
Try 7014....when still hot, they will light off when you just get the rod within an inch of the puddle.....BOOM !yeah. 7018s are bad enough. We get spoiled with the restart qualities of 6013. Possibly the only thing going for them.
