304 to en16t?

So, following my 304 to 304 thread, I need to remake the same part...well almost the same...the nut is still A2 (304) but the round bar its welded to will be en16t as thats now all ive got left large enough to use. Will be 20mm dia with an m12 through it and a small 16.5mm spigot to locate the nut as with the last one.

Again, its an adapter for a slide hammer for the same injectors, so shock resistance is likely the most important factor.

Will 309 do the job? I have er70, 308 or 309 and ideally need to make it this week as the lad its for is wanting the Injectors out next weekend but he is the type that will lose/break/forget to return tools so he isn't having the full stainless one ive made for my father.

I could pop to the local suppliers one day for a small batch of whatever rod needed if 309 isn't suitable. I would say I could tig braze it, but ive no experience of it

309L will be better than 309, much for the same reasons we talked about in the other thread about 308.

Actually, just checked purchase history, I have 309L so will crack on with that then

Can you not tap the en16t and avoid the need for welding a nut?

Possibly, but would need to be screwcut on the the lathe as its m18 fine and I haven't got a tap, and don't plan on needing to make another to justify the expense of the tap..if this one gets returned it will sit on the shelf next to the stainless one to never be used again, but cutting on the lathe involves a shallow metric thread into a blind hole on an imperial lathe with no spindle brake.

I may try screwcutting one but it seems more work than just welding nut on the end of some bar.

So...that wasn't as nice to weld as the fully stainless one...and i didn't realise til i went to weld it that my 309l filler rod is all 1.6mm...its stuck on though...still too hot, set the welder at 160 max and still didn't need all the pedal.

I need to practice rotating my wrist on round parts to keep torch angle correct...but its on there and I have no doubts that it will work...and another half hour torch time to go with it

Once its cooled I will stick it back in the lathe and clean it up a bit, most of the marks are from it slipping in the vice trying to tap it
