300MM cut from this mitre saw-is this correct?

Below is a link to a laser saw with a claim that it cuts up to 300mm deep (that is about 12 inches). Have i read this wrong?

yes u have read this wrong ,the depth of cut is 75mm & it will cut material upto 300 in width,this I know as i have this saw

really the blurb is badly written, it does indeed say that it can cut to 300mm deep, obviously totally impossible with a 254mm diameter blade.

Hi,

last time I popped into Tesco for something I was checking out a pile of laptops with a big sign on them telling me they had a 'massive 2Mb of RAM'...

It should have stated '2Gb of RAM'.

I guess it's easy to get these things wrong if you've not got any experience with the gear that you're selling.

That was exactly my thoughts Alec. I read it two or three times and was starting to think it was me. I note your point about badly written blurb (and your experience too Pete with the laptops). I have this vision of someone buying one and having a play with it, then bouncing it back to Tesco complaining that it does not do what it claims in terms of depth cut.

How long have you had the saw KJB and what are your thoughts on the quality? There was a longish thread on here recently http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5305&highlight=rage about the mitre saws (Rage, Macalister etc).

Did you share any of the problems experienced by TonyWilks in the OP? The 1800w motor is not too bad. Is the angle scale cast in to the table (or is it the paper version), and is it rickety or firm and steady? This saw is cheaper than the ones I have seen with this size motor.

I have had the saw for 2 years now,no problems whatsoever,the scale is cast into the base ,obviously the saw is quite heavy so stable,but it can be fixed to a table via 4 holes in the base.The laser is not of much use as the sawdust tends to gather around the light,but given the price of the saw I am more than happy with its capabilties,decking is no problem at all.comes with instructions,2 x u pieces to extend the bed for cutting longer lengths,2 x clamps for holding the timber whilst cutting & a spare set of motor brushes

Have been looking around at these for a while - there was a really cheap saw at Netto a while back - but I missed it - the Tesco site says they are out of stock ? if it is any use - this is one of the cheapest I've seen other than that...

looks a good buy,I have used erbauer drills before @ work as snap on take theres drills & brand it as there own.
good value & would be delivered overnight.can anyone spot any difference apart from a deeper cut?

I have the same saw by a different name 4 years now and rarely used. B&Q do this model online only at £175 ish, i paid £75 brand new but had to carry it in its box a good mile across some fields back to the car.
Its die cast aluminium, not exactly robust, the saw flexes, vibrates and chatters on slide cut.
Chop saws not too bad on soft stuff like wood and plastic. No way would i risk it with aluminium or steel.
Laser could be finer its too wide.

Ok for diy use on soft materials.
