3 phases if you get on with your neighbours?

Our place has three phase. It really puzzles me though as only two wires seem to make it to where the supply comes on to our property. Everytime I walk the dogs through the village i wander along with my neck tilted upwards trying to work out how many cables are really up there.

Could it be underground to your property, and the single phase is supplying elsewhere and not incoming?

Where is seems to go underground i can only count two wires. It runs across around half an acre of field from there so its hard to figure where the other phase is coming from. Would the overheads be 2 cores?

They do use a 3 and 4 core twisted overhead cable. Could it be you have one of those and a separate earth.

Everytime ive looked at a house over here, i've counted thé number of supply wires coming in, 4 means 3 phase.

2 means single phase.

That simple.

just to add to the mix. a lot of farms have 415volt single phase you will notice a lot of overhead lines in the sticks only have 2 wires the step down transformer is center tapped giving you the neutral on the supply giving 240v as well

i learnt the hard way once .changed a motor on a vaccum pump on a milking machine for 240v single phase supply . unknown to me it was 415 volt not 240 and burnt it out . it was a dual voltage motor whoever fit it originally should have marked it up 415 but they didnt

I've seen three phase 240 volt, but never understood why. Over to you.

in France and other countrys 240v 3 phase but in uk 415 volt

I've only worked and used 380 / 415 3 phase, but have encountered 230v 3 phase, but why ??? Not use 400 volt 3 phase, if you have thé choice, i assume 3 phase 230 / 240 involves a neutral?

In parts of Europe they distribute 2x 127v phase's to properties with no neutral. So making 230v phase to phase.
