a 240v rotary phase converter isn't hard to build otherwise (single phase power -> 3phase power). Requires the saw to be wired in delta mode, however, but the majority of 3 phase motors i've come across (ok, only about 10) can run in delta or star mode.
All "normal" asynchronous squirrel cage 3ph motors can run star or delta, whether this can be changed in the terminal box is another matter!
You also need to be sure you give them the right voltage though depending on the wiring configuration.

Mine was a single phase and it worked every time. Just too slow for me .i will get more details on it.
friend of dads delivers to various factories and it was dumped in yard under poly sheet.
they said he could have it for scrap value as motor burnt out.
hes going over tomorrow to see if he can still get it.
post 7 says its burnt out and there not worth rewinding unless its something special that cant be obtained at a reasonable priceSo, it can still be run in Y or D, once it's rewound!
Not an issue really...
Plus, if you know which you want before it's repaired, job sorted, it can be configured the way you want it.
Mind, I can't see where it says it is burned out.
cheaper to buy a used motor[

Not really, 3 phase motors are self starting as the phases are offset whereas a single phase motor would need a starting mechanism.Hi Can he not get the 3p motor rewound as single phase?
