Cost me £400 in ‘98 with me doing the ground work
I'm almost as embarrassed by the state of the wiring on that pole as I am about that in the house. And I've not had anything to do with either! That pole wiring looks horrible.
You should be able to get 3 phase from there, but cost may be a large factor here.
Let us know how the survey goes.
I don't think I could have summed that up better myself! An EICR is only as good as the sparks who does it and will only give an indication of the state of the wiring. By this I mean how thorough is the inspection (I've had a sparks supposedly inspect and test the kitchen fitters work, without doing ANY inspection, only testing), neither you or the sparks will see the condition of the wiring in the walls.
I remember back in the 90's & 00's the electricity company's were offering free wiring inspections, and were using scare tactics to get people to have there houses rewired as they did not meet current regs. where as they did meet the regulations for when the wiring was installed, which is all that's required.
An EICR could be used as a bargaining tool over the house price.
Some of the rule changes (BS7671 18th edition) I don't agree with - removing kitchens as a special area - and some of what's still allowed - eg sockets in cupboards under kitchen sink.
I'm semi skilled so know enough to comply with the regs. but am too old to want to do 3 years to get fully qualified (I'll be collecting my state pension before then). And I know the derogatory term for me is "a one year wonder".
