Even the Hypertherm 45 amp machine is listing max cutting at 5/8".
CNC or machine cutting will be less, consult the proper charts for real information.

I feel that Hypertherm, very unlike cheaper Chinese offerings, Under estimate their capacities, and over deliver which is refreshing!

As an owner of qty (3) hypertherm machines, I would disagree with you on that.

My cuts don't need to be super clean and they're all just straight lines. I think the thing I want to avoid is getting something that struggles with the occasional thicker material and becomes painful to use if I'm left gauging my way through these pieces...

When plasma is run at it's thickness limits, the cut suffers from angularity.

If using a machine for cutting, you'll end up making a mess.

Hence the real machines (Hypertherm & TD) charts downgrade the thickness
max when using on a machine (CNC table or straight line track burner).

what air pressure does everyone run at?

because honestly by the way people in this tread are talking my plasma cutter is freakishly good... and I know it isn't

when I first got mine I knew nothing about plasma cutters, ran it at 90psi and never changed it

for thick stuff I put it on max, which is only supposed to be 40amps (again, cheap Chinese thing so probably isn't 40 amps)

get some 20mm plate, cut it with your 40 amp machine, and post pix here of the results.
