Easiest way is to make a small hole in the braid and pull the conductors through, then twist it into a "pigtail", slip some earth sleeve over and earth it in the normal earth terminal.

I was toldnot to bother earthing it, so cut it off and insulated it. Glands not used as this is an interconnecting cable, plug to line socket.

The outer braiding is only rated for EMF purposes, and is not adequate to use as a earth cpc this is why it is only classified as a control cable.
However it should have a connection even if it is just at one end as in the event of a fault it could become live.

the idea of it is if it gets cut or trapped it will cut through the braiding 1st which SHOULD be earthed then pierce the feed cable and blow the fuse. not earthed and pierced could makes the full length of the braiding live and not blow the fuse

What about if you use SY cable with plugs and sockets - how do you earth the braiding?

May be of use in the future, the Electric cable Co- https://www.electriccable.co.uk/ have frequently turned out really good for service and price when I've wanted 3 phase cable and sockets or armoured stuff.
Always have to go though the invoice pile to find the right name, never comes up if you search for online electrical cable.

Thanks for link, although they have missed split concentric cable off their list
Got to admit I had never heard of 'split concentric'. Like the other posts I use SY for 3 phase leads.
It will stand a fair lump of steel being dropped on it and will lie flat on the floor.

COULD, but highly unlikely in my experience. Our 3 phase armoured leads at work don't have the braid earthed and they get brutal punishment, we buy hundreds of metres a year 32a and 63a. They get chopped, trapped, ripped, flattened, dragged through all manner of mud, clay, concrete, rebar and all outside in the weather. I'm in my 19th year of work there now and I've seen charred ends, melted pins, plugs and sockets split wide open from operator mis-use and general clumsiness and I've yet to hear of anyone getting a shock off the braid. If the braids were earthed we'd spend more time chasing earth leaks than working I expect.

that's totally up to u as long as your happy and aren't responsible in case there is an accident they may come down on u like a ton of sh..it if there is an accident. I like my insurance and my house . I do the job correctly and can sleep at night

why would u spend more time chasing earth leaks if it was earthed unless the inner cores were damaged 
that's stupid
that's stupidprblem with not eathing the braid, it's not the first phase to braid short beacuase there is usally a load of tape wraped round that bit of mangeld cabel and there is still the plastic sheath over most of it......
it's the other phase to brade fault 10 or 20 meters away thats when it gets fun especaly when the cabel is wet inside.
dosent seem to trip it just sits there sizzling, poping occasionly the od flash. it's go on for hours as well then when the faults have worked closer together you ether get some fire or a big bang. tho big D curve breackers don't really seem intrested in doning anything about ti untill it really has developed into a small display of fireworks

Because when you're working outside in all weathers, especially around salt water, things tend that normally don't conduct do weird things. I remember working on the Tyne Tunnel in winter 2009 it the crappiest weather, right on the riverside. There was a 100kva skid-mount generator that kept shutting down and we spent half the day re-starting it and checking all the leads, connections, plant etc. It was only when it got dark and it shut down that we re-started it and saw a miniature lightning show in the terminal panel where the distribution board was connected - you know the type half inch diameter posts a couple of inches apart on a tufnol (or whatever) board with dividers. Supposed to be totally non-conductive but a few weeks exposure to salt air and foul weather must have left a residue that was enough to track small arcs across inches of insulator surface. It was like watching the Return of the Jedi final fight scene. We shut it down and gave it a blast of fresh water from the jetwash, a good squirt of water displacer and all was rosy again.
