Well in the UK this will no longer matter. As we have now left the EU we can go back to 7.5 ton vans no problem

And our fire extinguishers can be properly colour coded again...................

Mine are that old they still are the correct colour.

Ah right, I see the point now. Yes, absolutely it's no longer in the sub 3500kg category, even with the "trailer" removed the main vehicle plate has to detail the MaM. I had an old Land Rover 110 like that, was SVO built with strengthened chassis and plated at 4500KG with hydraulic connections for trailer brakes. Makes no odds to me with C+E but ordinary licence holders couldn't drive it even when unladen and solo.

It could have electric brakes, I doubt it but it could.
It fails the must go straight to the fixing part of the regs too wrapping it round like that.
Easy to change to secondary coupling but not much point as said its now a C1 with an illegal non braked axle.

there’s no reason it can’t be a 3rd axle. Plenty of motorhomes have 3 axles and as long as it is plated correctly and the driver holds the appropriate licence there’s no issue.

Motorhomes don't have unbraked axles though. If it has 6 wheels it has 6 brakes, the ones I've seen do anyway.

What was wrong with 7.5 tons? With modern braking systems etc they are fine.
It would make life so much easier for pallet deliveries. If people have tight access sometimes only a van will fit and they have very feeble tail lifts rated to only about 500kg.

Nothing! It annoys me that it’s now an extra test and licence. Especially as cars are getting bigger and heavier and small trucks are easier snd more ‘car like’ to drive

This wouldn't be legal in Ireland, they're trying to get around the weight limit by claiming that some of the load is being supported by the van and some of it is supported by an independent trailer when it's clearly just a tag axle attached with a ball hitch and some clamps.
I showed that video to a CRVT tester (irish doe) and he says if it was brought into him with a car on the back of it by the cops suspected of being overweight, he would weigh it as being one Vehicle and not a vehicle with separate trailer.

They have increased it for electric vans to I think 4250kg IF you take approved training.

In all seriousness I expect you are a far better driver than I am. I have gone from 20k miles a year to less than a 1k. I have not towed a trailer for at least 4 years. None of this helps you, but I do have sympathy!
