Looks like the bean counters are controlling the common sense.

More to do with unions, wanting a standard week. They shot themselves in the foot. At our sorting office they dont leave to deliver post until 8:30, theydont start sorting untill 06:00 at the earliest. . So instead of finishing around 13:00 they are still at it at 17:00 and well past. Our posty knocked on our door at 20:00 the other day.

At least you were in for the delivery, I hate it when they have to leave a collection card as parking is a nightmare at the sorting office.

What kinda of posties drops a jiffy bag that has a weight to it through the letterbox and goes thud....my postie.

Block of aluminium in a jiffy bag hit the laminate flooring and gave me a bit of jump.

When we moved to our old house, 20 years ago, the postbox nearby had 3 collections a day. We had a morning and afternoon delivery. By the time we moved a few years ago, there was one collection at 5.30pm, and one delivery. Our house was at the end of a very long road and we would often have no post for 3 days, then a load of post the next day, so I can well believe the comment that if they don't finish the round it goes back to the office.

On the other hand, I don't see how Royal Mail can compete with the likes of DHL and their 'self employed' delivery folk who end up making next to nothing half the time.

I stuck two 2nd class stamps on a small 25g Jiffy bag Wednesday midday and posted it at the top of the road to Aberdeen. Arrived Thursday!

The Royal Mail has to provide a delivery service to every UK postal address. Courier firms do not, thus they can pick and choose where they will deliver to. The rest, they sub out to Royal Mail...

So.. From being a public service, Royal Mail is now a business... and trying to run things on a shoestring to remain competitive
