2nd atempt

hi..this is my second atempt at welding i have a clarke 85enb mig gasless this is on the lowest power setting wire speed 4....why do i blow holes when i try to butt weld or when i try to lap weld i blow the edge of the lap panel to bits...any advice would be most welcome...

You will have to move fast as gasless is hot on thin metal. Or, you can use malcolms good write up on Thin Metal Technique.

It will be much easier if you switch to gas and 0.6mm wire.

Hi,

try a series of tacks, ie, press the trigger for no more than one second at a time, with one to two seconds between each press for the weld to cool.

As you get used to is you can hold the trigegr for slightly longer but you need to watch the weld pool, try to anticipate when it's going to drop through and stop just before it does.

Have you read the tutorials on the site? There's some very good inforamtion there.

as Peter says gasless is hotter than gas MIG. Without meaning to be trite, what you really need is lots of practice, take a look at the thin metal tutorials here. Mabe find a night class that starts in September. Evening classes did wonders for my technique. (you will need to sign up a month or two before september)

hi..thanks guys for your input i got this welder on a friends say so he said it would be ok coz it goes down to 27 amps .8 wire i think i keep practicing a bit more,..i may change later to gas ....lol
