2MT keyless chuck recommendation?

Hi All.

Please excuse my ignorance here - I'm after a keyless chuck for my pillar drill; somewhere around 1mm to 13mm (16mm would be abonus). Accuracy isn't my main priority - I don't do any precision work, and it will end up rusty in my very, very damp workshop.

I've seen them cheap on ebay, but I suspect the function might be questionable.

Any recommendations?

I have a cheap ebay 13mm keyless chuck and cant fault it but it is self tightening, I don't have enough torque to worry too much about that and can undo it even if I stall the drill in it's lowest gear. With most similar items from China it is a bit of a lottery whether you get a good one but I've not read any complaints online about them.

Accupro from MSC might be worth a look, I have a keyed chuck that appears good quality and IMO a step up from the named Chinese offerings.

The one I showed on my new Kerry drill came from RDG tools in 2017. It cost £26 then. It works faultlessly with only 0.001 runout.

I've just ordered this one for my Meddings project, it has an integral arbor which is supposedly slightly more accurate, also less bits to fall apart. At 40 quid, its only a couple of quid more than their others.

The problem I've found with that type in a drill is you have no grip ring to hold to prevent the whole thing turning. They are fine in a lathe tailstock as the quill doesn't turn.

I have one and it's brilliant.
My favourite is my Albrecht but they are silly money unless you get VERY lucky - which I did

Just stick a bar through the hole in the quill used to remove the chuck. But remember to remove ithe bar before turning it on

Or do as @Seadog suggests. I haven't used my new knurling tool yet so sounds like an excuse.

Or use a pin spanner, I believe there's a hole for one

Nope, Bar in the quill idea too slow and means it's not a tool less operation, might as well use a keyed chuck.

Nope, Pin spanner does the same thing as hand tightening, as the holes are in the same lump of metal.

Nope, Making one won't work as the chucks with a grip ring are longer because the core sticks out above the rotating part and the ring ring fits to that. Even if it was possible why not just choose to buy a grip ring type?

They really are very good. I have 2. One is a plain shank that I hold in an ER32 collet. I hate changing R8s. Only need a fairly gentle tighten. Wouldn't fancy using one for tapping though - I use a trust Jacobs for that.

That can get very tight. I've had to resort to a couple of pairs of pipe grips on more than one occasion. With suitable protection for the jaws, of course.

You lot are a bad influence on me. Just bought a second hand Albrecht, with the grip ring this time

The RDG one is either heading back unopened or going onto the Myford. I'll double check what I've already got when get back from London.
