Hello,
I have been trying to google for this info to no avail:
Question 1:
For the Single Stage Direct Gloss 2K paints why do some have different ratios for the hardener, e.g. 2:1 (seams most common), 3:1, 4:1 etc...
What is difference in the paint, are the solids content the same? What does this mean practically for the end result? Is one paint ratio mean better quality than another?
Obviousily 4:1 mix vs 2:1 mix means your paint does not go as far as for the same volume you use more paint than hardener? But does that mean you have a thicker layer of solids on the vehicle? Is that better?
Does the different hardener ratio affect the flash off time for laying the second coat?
Question 2:
When looking for some cheap paints for practising with I have seen people selling 2K Tinters cheap out of date etc, are these exactly the same as the ready mixed paint but just a specific colour for the paint mixer systems to use to make your colour? Can I buy these and use without a problem? Are they a different solids and need diluting?
In the same vein what are the 2K Binders? Are these mixed with the Tinters?
One example is the Mason CT Superthane 2K Tinter, is this a Single Stage Direct Gloss?
No amount of googling or websites reveals this? Been on the companys website and no data sheet for it..
If it is a Direct Gloss, what ratio would I mix it with the hardener? Can I buy these and use as normal direct gloss paint?
Question 3:
If I want to experiment mixing my own colours, can I mix different brand Direct Glosses toegther as long as they are the same mixing ratio i.e. 2:1?
In case your wondering I have all the correct safety gear, I am using an airfed mask, etc...
Many thanks !
