I think I know the answer to this already but as I am so inexperienced I thought I would run it past you pros’
I have had to repaint a couple of repairs on my camper van as some welding work was needed in the inner arches for the MOT.
I painted the whole van this time last year using a 2K Semi Gloss to the original colour (Marsala Red – which is a classic solid colour) I purchased everything from Jawel Paints in Birmingham. This include the 2K high build primer, hardeners, thinners ect ect .
I did not use a clear lacquer on top after the colour coat as I did not deem it necessary. I painted in the repairs yesterday- being a camper van and not having a clear coat and most importantly being a complete beginner (when I sprayed it last year it was my first attempt) rather than trying to blend in the repairs to the surrounding panels I used the natural seam lines of the panel and masked using those.
It is a T25 camper and I found a picture online showing the panel I re sprayed as I don’t have any pictures on me atm – anyways this is a picture showing the panel in grey primer that I have repainted:
I am quite pleased with the finish as it looks the same as the other panels (i.e. quite bad .hehehe..) however the colour is much brighter than the panels/door around it and sticks out like a sore thumb.
I had paint left over from the same tin that I used 12 months ago to paint the van however I did buy new (but the same) hardener/thinners ect.
I used the same gun and I also had written down the gun pressures from last time (as I did a lot of research before I started).
Now I know that there is always going to be a slight difference due to humidity, number of coats, the amount of thinners ect ect however I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help blend it/match?
As I said the paint has only been laid on about 12 hours ago and it has not been touched in anyway and also the panels around it are still very grubby and not been polished ect.
Dont get me wrong it is not silly different but it does look much more vibrant/red.
So thanks for reading “how not to match or blend in repairs” but if anybody has any help/guidance or advise if anything can be done or what my next step should be (I know put the gun down and get a pro to do it…..) then I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks again
