looks a bit thick the paint flat it back .thin the paint more and do a test piece on scrap metal first before re coating

do you have your gun and pressure set right
could be paint too thick as bs says or could be going on very dry or too higher pressure leaving the texture hard to be exact from a photo

It was hard to get a good photo. I don't know what is right as never done it before.
Pressure is at about 75psi at the beginning of a 10m line.

thats what i meant above (dry)
try increasing the paint flow you should see the paint go on wet ie smooth and an instant reflection but be careful too much and it will run
I find I am moving the gun really quickly (worried about runs!). Will slow down and increase the flow.
Just out of interest, what I have now, would it flat with 1200, 1500, 2000 and polish to a good finish with a lot of elbow grease?

it will flat to a good finish if you have put enough paint on
try moving slower before adjusting the gun you should see a reflection straight away if that doesnt do it increase the flow try on some scrap first it doesnt matter what it is as long as its not pourous as it would be absorbed

Looks like its been going on dry.
Are you using a gravity fed hvlp gun?? 75 psi is too high. I paint around 38psi.
Try lowering your pressure to about 40psi and slowing your arm speed down. You want to see it going on pretty wet, you need to be in a well lit painting area, to almost the finish you desire. Remember not to put it on too wet as it does still "flow" a little once its on the panel.

no pressure loss if the air line is half inch bore finishing with a whip tail to gun

Set the reg at 40 psi with the trigger pulled on the gun, then if you wish to drop pressure a little more then adjust it at the gun.
Try it that way and combined with a slower arm you should see a marked improvement. Dont forget a 50% overlap and keep the trigger fully pressed a few inches before you hit the panel and for a few inches after you pass the panel to be sure you dont go dry at the edges. Keeping the gun pointing directly at the panel at all times.

and spray using a 90 degree pattern which you can achieve by turning the aircap 90 degrees so the gun isnt on its side
With the pressure down and a small adjustment to the gun I am getting a better finish.
Still struggling to slow my arm down. I try to watch for the gloss as I am moving. Not easy as where I am painting does not have the greatest of lighting.
Got a slight bit of reaction on a part of the bumper for some reason. Hope it might rub out though.
