I was in Newbury in a meeting with a bunch of BT Networks execs. Their pagers all started going off, which they ignored initially and then checked "plane hit the WTC" said one, which we assumed to be like a light plane.

Then we went into reception where there was a TV playing it out - stood there for an hour. I had a guy in Canary Wharf doing (ironically enough) a disaster recovery test - had to basically order him to leave as it seemed like a reasonable target given what we were watching.

That was a terrible day. I was on a course near Oxford (at an American company) and the atmosphere there was dreadful.

I visited Ground Zero a couple of years later, and that too was horrible - such a tremendous feeling of sadness. It's giving me goose bumps just thinking about it

I was in work, idly looking around. Everyone else had their heads down, working I happened to look at the screen near to my desk, which usually had market information on it, only to be confronted with an image of the first strike. After my alert no more work was done that afternoon.

We didn't have much contact with the outside world during the working day so were getting snipets of information from delivery drivers before being thrown out early.

In the same vein although opposite, I was only thinking how strange we had years and years with attrocities all blamed onto someone often the same group but its quite strange we have not had any reports of these things happening recently. I think the new York Marathon Bombing was the last International event I can recollect.

I was at work and it was on one of the feeds. I remember telling my boss to come and see it only to be told it was rubbish and to get back to work! When the second plane hit he rather changed his tune

i was in school. teachers didnt tell us, radio wasnt allowed and this obviously was pre smart phone days. i only found out after walking home.

This was on all the TV news channels in John Lewis when my (now) wife and I were shopping for cutlery and crockery to start in our 1st house together. It was a very sombre day and evening for us. I lost colleagues in that as well, back in my investment banking days. I still hold a deep and utter loathing for the perpetrators, and despite being a believer in karma, I hope there is a special place in hell for them.

There was this and Princess Dianna's death that just stick in my mind for time and place ,,
Both sad events that really were bolts from the blue.

The Sunday morning I heard the new about Princess Diana - I was fly fishing with Dad and a mate.

When the towers went down - it was in the afternoon I heard on the Radio - was in my workshop - went next door - chap had a TV and we watched the footage - the chap said and I will never forget "this will lead to war" - and it did - he was not wrong.

I was in school, it was shut early I distinctly remember walking along the road way when mum said something terrible had happened.

Got home and watched the news, didn't really understand at the time that's the innocence of youth.

I was at Canary Wharf. We were very conscious of the planes coming into City Airport I can tell you.

The tv was showing the second plane in real time .
One of the lads said "this is the beginning of the end"
Things have never really been the same since .
The sight and noise of the people jumping will live with me forever.
The fire crews that went in there to help must have known they were not going to come out .
People were running for their lives those lads were running in to try and help .

It’s strange how events stick on your mind. I remember walking to our grandmas after school and it being on the tv when I got there. Everything just felt weird.

For out an out horrid feelings, I was on jury duty at Manchester crown court the week of the arena bombing. Remember hearing initial reports on the radio as I got into bed and thinking it sounded serious. Next morning riding into the city centre it was dead silent everywhere, and more armed coppers than I can ever recall seeing in one place.
