Well, off to a great start...supposed to be viewing it tomorrow...now being ignored by the seller

This seems to be a common thing these days. I have been chasing a few things and get no response, even though it has only been listed for a few days.

I wish people selling stuff would just say its sold, or to F off. At least you know where you stand !

Even more annoying that he asked for cash so I pulled 3k out...now the alternative is on a dealer forecourt they wont take cash

How hard does it need to be to buy a car? Seriously, there are wars that have been resolved easier than this...

The car i am now looking at buying is on a second hand car forecourt in bristol...or so i thought...I rang them this morning, im in the area, you've got a vitara on ebay, I want to see it...yeah no problem he says, pop in whenever you want...hour later I get there to be told oh, we dont actually have it here, its in a storage depot so you will need to speak to the boss about arranging an appointment so it can be brought over...so why tell me pop in whenever I want when ive told you what car I want to see and you know its not there...

So now im going back on saturday and have insisted on a test drive for the sake of being messed around today and he will be knocking the cost of the 60 miles of diesel ive used going there and back for absolutely no reason...plus a few quid extra for good measure and it had best be mint as its 700 quid more than other virtually identical vehicles

im not starting a new post and clogging the feed up so...

2009 freelander 2.2...yay or nay? there is one 10 mins from my door for 2600 quid, mot til july, looks like it may need some lower arms by next year, not the end of the world but importantly, no rust...but it has a dpf and failed last year for emmitting smoke, however no mention now on this years test...it did fail this year, but on a bulb and a missing wheel nut...

it has advisories this year for lower arms front and rear on 1 side, and and oil leak (id be suspicious if a land rover didnt leak oil)...

ideal i want something with a low range box, but its not a deal breaker, i will be mostly using it for fishing spots i can get to in the jag...i swore id never own another land rover, but this one does look half decent even by my standards. 140k miles, clean good condition interior, manual...

yeah thought so, but the nice reliable japanese cars that are relatively close and in budget are all either rotten or have a history that makes my jag look decent...or being sold by plebs that cant organise anything...

at least the freelander is local so if it breaks down i know where the guy lives ive never owned one though and only experience of land rovers is modified discos that gotbashed, thrashed and downright abused on an almost daily basis...

I looked at an ad for a Vitara 2009 with 2.4 petrol engine.......BUT on closer investigation their blocks and heads (alu) are prone to cracking.....so it's a risk. The smaller and bigger engines are ok though....maybe you dodged a bullet ...

As for the td4 - engines seem to be ok (just don't go for the Rover engines though )....but no personal experience to speak of....

i know the original freelander had engine issues, i cant remember if they were a K series though...i have no experience of a 2.2 td4 though...but there isnt a mention of rust on the histry and this so far is the only 4x4 ive found with no rust at all...hard to believe that from a land rover but appears to be true. i cant recall seeing it being driven locally, but then i dont actively look at them

looked at rav4's but everyhting worth looking at was rotten or a list of advisories, id be working on it til the next mot just to get a pass...cant stand hondas (or VW) personally, had an accord for a while and it was the most souless and almost clinical vehicle i have ever owned...in fact it was that bad i swapped it for a td5 disco

this one has no mention of any corrosion at all on any mot...its only ever failed on daft stuff like bulbs and tyres until last year when it was blowing some smoke...but then this year failed on some bulbs again then passed the same day...

is yours the 2.2?

I've had mine over 10 years and am on various forums/FB groups and never seen any mention of blocks/heads cracking.

Nothing wrong with the FL2 farmer guys round here have had them for years Use them a lot off road and tow cattle trailers too.

I had 2 FL 1s TD4s and had no problem with them either, once previous bodges had been fixed. FL2 better in all respects.

Two things though ........ Check the road tax and insurance costs before you buy, and bear in mind that if it needs tyres, you need to change them as a set, four the same size, and same manufacturer to avoid problems with the 4wd system.

insurance is cheaper than my jag, tax as far as i can tell is 350 a year. this is the model with stop start so may actually be a sniff cheaper to tax but the figures ive seen so far suggest around 350 and im fine with that.

tyres wont be an issue for a while, but if 1 wears and all 4 need changing its my excuse to stick a set of maxxis AT's on it.

am i right in thinking the 2.2 td4 is the same engine as the 2.2 in my jag? the mondeo ST TDCI duratorq? if so i may raid the jag for valuable parts like injectors before weighing it in.

Early production J24B (2.4L) engines w/head & block...

Thought I'd throw a post up on here, a guy from Germany has posted about a GV with a cracked block (J24B 2.4l engine- basically same as the Kizashi) on a Kizashi forum I frequent. To me, it sounds possible that the mechanic has diagnosed the "problem" incorrectly - the post even mentions him...

Yes it is, pre dpf as well

It has HDC, took it green laning 2 days after getting it, never missed the low box
