Ive orded a gearbox service kit for the my X5 which is a new sump with built in filter and the ATF for the box...dont like this oil for life thing that BMW do...any one done the job on this ZF gearbox and any pointers before i rip into the job.

Which gearbox? I've done an oil change on a ZF 6hp in an L322 and the only special bit was a diagnostics tool to keep an eye on temperature to check level. Oh and don't switch off the engine to check the oil level as it rises quite drastically with the engine off... Ask me I how I know


@Ubique recently posted about the oil I think as most modern LRs use the ZF boxes but when I changed it I used ZFs Lifeguard oil as it was the only thing available at the time.

Yes the same box is used in the X5 mate.
