2005 1.8 astra exhaust flexy

Hi. Sons astra failed mot on exhaust leak again although always sounds " chuffy"
I'm on holiday so no more detail but I think this is second or third time it's had a leak.
Previous times it's been the front flexible so downpipe replaced ( my trusted garage and I didn't have time).

Anyone know if there's a torque resisting mounting somewhere other than the main engine/ gearbox mounts to inner wings?

Looks like I'll be under it when back from holiday maybe fitting clamp in flex to save removing lamda sensor and pipe!

Thanks those drawings useful. Saw a " dogbone" on Google search.
When I get under there at least I know what/ where to look for to check for play

It's fairly high mileage car and was OK for first couple of years but I did wonder second time if engine movement was problem as I've only had one flex go in many years of older cars.

Some fun to look forward to ( along with rear brake service it seems) after 2 weeks in florida.

Well quick test for leak and all pipes good.
Turns out it's the three captive studs in the manifold/cat where the pipe flange bolts on.
The threads are rusted so the nuts aren't clamping pipe to manifold.
Looks like I need to drill studs out and replace with bolts.

You think they'll drill with HSS bit? As they'll have seen a lot of heating cooling cycles.
Obviously don't want to remove manifold and access at first look looks OK ( on wheel ramps)

Exhaust fixed, two studs drilled out and replaced with nuts and bolts, third OK with new nut so sounds much better now which should fix Lamba fail.

Did find my stock of 8mm bolts is low ( used to get from Wilco pick and mix) so better get some .

on to the brake binding now!
