2004 renault traffic issues.

Vans been running fine since I bought im november. December had full service and cam belts etc changed.

Thursday evening I stopped off to look at a job and on my return to the van 20 minutes later it wouldn't start.
Tried a good few times.g
Gave up and phoned the wife to let her know id probably be coming home on a lorry. Turned the key in the ignition to prove my point and it started second turn of the engine as usual.

Got home and shut off. Wouldnt start again.
A few minutes later fires up fine no problems. Tested ten times in a row.
5 minutes later just turning over as if no fuel.
Then randomly just started again.
Been ongoing over the last few days.
No rhyme or reason. Friday did it once after a short drive. Saturday it did it once after standing for hours multiple stops on the same day without issues. And twice again today.
Apologies @Richard. Finally started and ran fine after 30mins on your road.

Hasnt been down on power. Temps stable throughout.
The service light did click on when it played up this afternoon then turned out.

Anyone had similar issues.
When it does start its always sexond turn of the engine as usual.

Visiting the garage tomorrow but would appreciate any input.

fuel filter housing is plastic they have a tendency to crack and let air in known fault
also not showing key symbol is it as in immobiliser fault

Same sort of problem on our 2 fiat Doblos crank sensors, ran ok just the start sometimes 2 go ok sometimes 3\ 4 minutes very occasionally would die when driving press clutch in die let clutch out would start on overrun & be ok for days.

Wires to crank position sensor on the front of the gearbox.
As you said cambelt has been done guessing it's the 1.9 dci engine and wiring is prone to rotting now.

This sounds familiar and would make sense. Turns over as if its not getting fuel. Then all of a sudden gets fuel amd starts as normal.

Never seen a key symbol on mine. Its an 04 maybe on newer models.

Other than the non starting its running fine.

No problems over than starting thankfully. Runs and drives fine other than starting.

Had to get a job finished or id have had it in the garage friday.

Had a vivaro with similar issue! Have a look to see if there's air between the fuel filter housing & the high pressure pump. We had an air leak in the supply pipe causing starting issues. See if the primer bulb next to the fuel filter pushes fuel to the pump

Did try this
Didnt seem to.make much difference to start/no start however. Did require some pumping to gain pressure. Another point to investigate further.

Had the same with one before was the pump .. pump had to be coded in when replaced but getting it refurbed worked out so much cheaper and was a vauxhall mechanic recommended we do it that way

Chckd aprox 6 weeks ago. No leaks and doesn't burn much. Will check again.

Oil was a bit low. Not drastically so though. Topped up.
Had the codes read this morning. No faults other than an old airbag code thats been rectified already.
However he has a vivaro with imob issues so conveniently when he tried to start it it failed and he noted the imob light having a fit (hadnt noticed a difference but tbh cant really recall how it normally behaves) so will pay attention to it next time around.

If that's the case they have a place local that should be able to help.

I suspect an injector needle not seating properly and thus low pressure in the rail... These are notorious with injector/pump issues when they age a bit. Look for frayed cables as well...

Would that stop the imobiliser disengaging though?
Now I know what im looking for its repeatable.
Imob light goes out and she starts on the button. Light flashes and turns but doesnt fire.
Someones coming out tomorrow to help diagnose.

Anyone had any experience with remote keys.
They do a bypass box for my van
Plugs in the uch and key reader.

If you have immo issues then thatvwould be another cause for non start... As above, look at frayed cables on engine, there are a couple of points where it can rub trough even with sheating on- actually is the plastic sheating that rubs the cables...

To conclude.
Auto locksmith recoded keys etc and it appeared to solve it.
Started again a few days later. Driving me nuts.
Bypass didnt work. Bad description as only bypassed the key reader but ruled the ring out.

Auto electrician came out this morning and found the fault.
Below the steering wheel is a secondary board for the imobiliser.

One of the pins coming off the board had corroded and snapped completely while cleaning.

Bit of an agricultural bypass and working fine now.

Will source a new module to be recoded and fitted in the future.
