going to be a difficult module to repace as it'll be security coded to the nines.

yep, that's why i don't want to replace it or risk blanking it disconnecting the battery. Suppose i will have to get a quote for sorting it...or just live with it. I know which will be cheaper

i have been warned by 2 separate garages that it may do all sorts of damage. The main one is usualy completely wiping out the engine management, and then the engine will refuse to start as it wont know where in the cycle it is. Everything on it is electronic.
i had a problem with it not so long back where it would died if it got to 3000 revs, or if you tried coasting with the clutch in. Needed new cam position sensor and crank angle sensor, then after fitting those it realised that the timing sensor was on its way out and wouldn't rev at all...great cars to work on unless its anything electrical, just walk away

Yikes Never Heard Of Stuff Like That - Newest Car My Mates Have Is 03 Ford Fiesta - Various Other Ford Owners As Well But Nowt Newer - Me A 99 Focus MK1 Oh And The Odd Astra (VERY ODD).Cant Say Anything About Foreign Cars My Focus Made in Germany.

the French seem to love over complicating things these days. As i say, there are 3 fuses mounted on the battery positive post, then another fuse box by the air filter, and another behind the battery box, another inside the glovebox and another somewhere under the dash that they call the interior multiplex module. The engine multiplex and interior multiplex are just fuse boxes with sealed fuses that cant be replaced, but they have loads of electronics in them to protect against surges when jump starting. They are also linked into the main ecu which governs most things, but the locking is done from the interior module, which must just to be to make life difficult for anyone doing any fault finding

Just pull the battery off. Loads of old wives tales about stuff going wrong. If a module can't cope with disconnection / reconnection its heading for a failure anyway.

Sounds like your garage bungled on the sensors. Cam and crank failure simultaneously, odds on that are pretty tall.

If you don't want to burn it, strip it and ebay it bit by bit.... thats what I did with my megane in the end.

All kinds of odd electrical problems one day on ours, bulb went and blew a fuse, some of the interior lights stopped working, radio stopped, heater stopped... replaced the bulb and fuse for the headlight bulb and off we went, all good again. Well, electrically anyway

I hated Renault as a rule then bought my Kangoo, its been good. Has certainly given Renault a reprieve in my book, but all marques suffer electrical problems equally in my experience.

did them myself. Did cam sensor first as that came up on laptop, then it wouldn't start, found this to be crank sensor, changed that and it started. After a few days it wouldn't rev at all, back on laptop and came up as timing position sensor or something along those lines. Changed that and its been fine apart from this new fault.

A lot of new Range Rovers have a second battery fitted inside the rear quarter to cope with all the electric/electronic gizmos fitted these days!

Oh jesus, a Megane... my dad had an 03 that used to do all manner of strange things - windows that openend and closed randomly, central locking that didn't. Or did, or maybe didn't. I was glad to see the back of it. That said I get regular calls from my mother to say her Stilo has invented some other new electronics glitch instead.
My last Renault was a 25GTX 2.2L, with the fantastic Renix engine management that never went wrong, never missed a beat, stalled or wouldn't start. Every car on the planet should have that engine.
The electronic dash did have an intermittent wobbler when I bought the car but it was easily fixed by resoldering the back of the dash PCB. I think I had a failed CV joint and had to replace a couple of exhaust sections but apart from that I still have fond memories of it as one of the best cars I've owned.
One of my ex-wives had a Renault 21 1.7L which was gutless when towing a trailer tent to the south of France but again, supremely reliable. Before that she had a R5 GTL, as I recall the only thing that ever broke was a throttle cable.

right. I took the plunge and pulled the battery lead earlier. Came in the house and had a cup of tea. Went out an hour later and connected it back up. Tried to start it and had every warning light on the dash. Wouldn't turn over at all. Tried a few times and it started to turn over but wouldn't fire, and i couldn't hold it on the starter motor as its push button start so after 2 attempts it stops. Anyway, got it going eventually and it was lumpy. Plugged laptop in, cleared the lights and scanned for faults. Massive list, every single fault code i think. Took it for a drive and it got better but not perfect. Cleared all codes and turned it off. Started again and all was fine. However, locks are still the same. I'm starting to loathe this car. Its lovely to drive, but its getting very close to being advertised on ebay

no i haven't long had the batteries done in both of them and it doesn't matter which one is used
