i sharpen all my hss lathe tools and a lot of stuff on a disk sander as well as my belt sanders . much better than a bench grinder

yup. Doesn't seem to transfer heat as much as a grinding wheel. Big plus. Just make sure to clean sawdust out first. :/ lesson learnt.

Thanks for all the replys! I can do it with a file ok but find I chased it for a bit to get it square.

Belt sander is a great shout - will give that a shot tomorrow!

Use an appropriate belt, Zirconium for stainless steel, or Aluminium Oxide for mild steel.
