I'm collecting bits as funds allow for my project Jeep XJ
I'm converting the rear suspension from leaf to coil and it will be a 4 link setup
The front is already on coils as standard but the arms are quite short so it's getting a 3 link long arm conversion
I have some Johnny Joints on their way and I'm looking for suitable material to make the suspension arms
Original plan was to use 2" dia, 1/4" wall CDS however this is proving hard to get hold of. My local steel supplier can get it but I've been waiting 2 weeks for a price.
Someone suggested using 2" 7075 aluminium bar instead, I need about 6m in total, it comes in 4m lengths and will cost me about £150 for 2 lengths
The CDS will be more however cost is not the issue within reason
The Jeep will be used off road, it will probably get dragged over some rocks at some point (sensitively of course) and I am worried about the rocks gouging the aluminium
So question is, should I be concerned and hold out for the CDS or go with the Aluminium option
