Forced to use some from Wickes in the 90's, outer sheath was stuck to the insulation, a right pain to strip!

There has been a fair bit of trouble recently with imported wire, I think from Turkey. Apparently the wire is actually steel but "painted " with a copper coloured substance to make it look like copper. Some of the big suppliers have been taken in by it and it's not just one size of cable but all sizes so beware

I've just found some T&E labelled 1.5mm², it's diameter is 1.28mm so I make it's CSA to be 1.28731428571429 mm² (approx).

It's red & Black, Delta brand, IIRC from Wickes many years ago.

rtbcomp It's a bit worring that you approx to 14 dp's But still at best what you have is (rounded up) 1.3 mm square of copper area So ther does seam to be something not quite right maybe. Hah, I've done Teesside- Gloucester to replace a fuse, Teesside to Worcester to reset a circuit breaker and (monumentally) Teesside to Manchester to change a lightbulb - the staff weren't allowed to touch it. We charged them £550 for the privilege.

What?

Cable used to be (and for automotive sizes still is) quoted as the number of strands and the diameter of those strands. So 7/0.029 is 7 strands of 0.029" diameter wire...

Try Bristol to Helstone Cornwall to change a fuse befor 9 o'clock (8 hr fix call placed at 9 previous day) then phone office (looking forward to toodle back to Bristol) Can you go to Swansea and meetup with there IT chap. WHAT, You know where I am do you. Yes but we need you to go to Swansea. Ye but Ye but No but No but. Well it will take me most of day. Ok but we need you to go.... Well went to Swansea arrived 16:45 ish. Spoke to guy on gate. Thev all gone home. Agggg. Checked with staff coming out of building, yep all gone home. Aggggg. Went home. Found next day bloke was in there crawling around under desks. Tough cookie.

big job that change a fuse on a callout i get em no credit on there meters turn up and tell em to get there wallet out then leave. 50 quid a shot and thats only local

Whenever I go to Helston (I look after the kit used to x-ray the helicopters at RNAS Culdrose) I drive up to Newcastle (45 mins), jump on a plane to Newquay and pick up a hire car
Dinner at Watergate Bay and up early for the return flight.

Our company took on the boss's sister-in-law to organise our field service work. Apart from the fact that she knows sweet-FA about the work we do, she doesn't even know her way around the UK and once asked one of our guys if, 'on the way back' to Teesside from Kilmarnock, he could 'pop in' to RAF Brize Norton (in Oxfordshire)...

I've had all that crap too. From Sheffield (I live in Sheffield) to Daresbury (Cheshire) at 4:00 pm, going past the office in Hale on the way. One of engineers who worked in Hale went past Daresbury on the way home. I was not a happy bunny!

Thank goodness we didn't have mobile phones in those days, we'd have been run ragged.

I got locked in a brewery once, security thought I was a burglar!

Back on topic, perhaps cable sizes are quoted optimistically, like engine sizes in cars.
