Hi All
Long time infrequent lurker on here, usually when I've been trying to find the solution to a problem, anyhow feel i need to post now.
I've been MIG welding over a long period of years on and off as required (just an amateur hobby welder, I'm definitely not a pro !), restoring a few classic cars and now my son has started racing Ministox so I've dug out the old Clarke 90 MIG that replaced my original SIP 130 that i bought a very long time ago.
Anyhow I'm fed up with the Clarke and want something i have more control over with a knob for power rather than preset buttons that always seem to be either too much or too little between the power that i think i need, you know what i mean. So anyway i kept a link i had from when the SIP welder broke and it was for the R-Tech 180, i couldn't afford it at the time and bought the Clarke one second hand.
So.... I've been reading various post about the R-Tech 180 on here and i think this is a good welder for my uses, I will be welding approx 1mm to about 5mm thick mild steel, possibly more thin than thick but who knows what i will be welding on his car next week !
Am i looking at the right welder for my needs ? Who has one ? What's it like ?
I also found that it looks very similar to other ones on google images that are not made by R-Tech, is it a generic rebranded welder ? Confused.
Other thing i need to look at is welding gas, my bottle of CO2 can't be far from empty and i may as well go for some proper gas. I need to know what mix of gas would suit my welding requirements ? also it would need to be available rent free as I'm only a hobby user. Any recommendation ? I have a regulator that's been used on a full sized bottle of boc argon, are all regulators for these bottles the same, would this fit one of the rental bottles ?
Hope somebody can help
Craig
