...and I thought my first paint job had gone so well. I'm renovating the elevating roof of my VW camper. I covered the finished job with a very light plastic sheet an hour after painting with cellulose to keep dust off it. A week later I moved the roof out onto the driveway so as to paint the roof opening on the van in the garage. I covered the first job with an additional plastic tarp and a week later when I removed the covers to start wet sanding I had marks all over the roof from the plastic sheeting. Doh!
Was it a mistake to cover the fresh paint too soon trapping the solvent under the plasting and slowing down the curing time?
I'm now wet sanding with 600 to remove all the faults but this has left the top coat very thin in places. Can I recoat with fresh colour directly over the top of this finish 2-3 weeks after the first top coat? If so what grit should I wet sand with?
