Hi all ,well i finaaly got my clarke hooked up with gas, well jury rigged to be precise some hose ,glue and some clamps ,its all good now.
So after doing some welding i i thought i would post some pics in hopes of getting some comments,good or bad as im still learning and between this excellent site and some comments i can only get better.
The welds arent pretty , but i did get good penetration and they seem to be holding ,so i hope im onthe right track .
I do have a question tho ,my gauges read in CFH which i have set at 15+/-any idea what that might be in LPH, and the gas is a 75% argon 25% co , ,

Thanks Shenion for the conversion , yes i did it in short sections due to the position i was in , now i have to get under the vehicle and try my hand at some overhead and vertical to finish the patches, any hints but i will post some pics of that attempt .

For overhead, unless you have proper gear, don't be anywhere near underneath when welding overhead. I find the hardest part is trying to position to see and not get in "drop zone".

Most lower-cost masks are not rated for overhead welding (will melt plastic.)

Up the wire speed a bit, keep the torch at about 45 degrees and a bit longer wire stickout. Not optimum, but keeps the shroud from filling up with metal.

as above...

plus lay to one side if you can. Being right handed I lay on my back to the left of the work and then lift my left shoulder so I'm at about 45 degrees, weight on my right shoulder.

Make sure you have either very good overalls or, as I tend to do, wrap a welding apron around your right arm and onto your chest. Any spatter that comes off an overhead weld will go straight through a shirt and 'standard' overalls.

Your forearm will look like it's had a lot of needle injections after an hour of welding!

I've told the story before on here of my nephew who's a motor mechanic...

welding underneath a car, he let the pool get too big and a big blob of weld dropped onto his chest. It burnt through his (thick) overalls, and his shirt, and burnt his nipple off!
