1st attempt...

My son wondered if you'd like to see / comment / advise on this & asked me to post on his behalf as he's at school right now.

He created it from 3.2mm copper coated rod, MIG welded & 'coloured' with a propane torch last year as a gift for his retiring Headmaster.

Boot-scaled dragon as no mug available (size 10 for exact sizing)

I don't think he did a bad job for a 14 year old & he's now working on 2 more as commissions (one similar in size to this & a second out of 6mm rod which will be about 1m tall).

Any advice welcomed, thanks.

Thanks for the positive feedback, much appreciated (also from eSCHEn & stalwart-hmmlc) I will pass it on to him. Yep, really proud of what he is doing - at least I know where he is & what he's spending (my) money on . He even asked the family for tools for Christmas as well

As for the workshop budget... the Bank of Dad is being hammered as you can guess But I'd rather he was up in the 'toybox' doing something constructive than hanging around with some of the kids he was at Primary School with.

He built this from scratch last year too so he could take his disabled brother round a few car shows:


He's making some pretty sound choices (proud dad, eh?) which I'm only too happy to support (at least until he earns enough to keep me in the manner I'd like to become accustomed to) !

Cool Dragon! Wish I'd done my baby dragons 45 years ago and pursued my arts & crafts beyond O-level, could have opened up a different career path, who knows....

Thanks for all the encouraging comments; much appreciated by both of us. Will post up new stuff as he completes it.

Irritatingly he's one of those who's taken to welding like a duck to water (better'n me & no bad habits to forget)

All I'm getting now are not so subtle hints about a plasma cutter for the next birthday and someone to teach him to TIG!

"Pops" - you sure know how to make a bloke feel really old (if you look at his T-shirt in the 1st pic, it's got a rough pic of me on the front tho'so maybe you're right)
