1k primer reaction

I sprayed primer yesterday and got some reaction, unsure if I need to start again?

It is an ABS panel. It was sprayed in 2014 with poundland rattle cans, primer and gloss black. It was difficult to remove all of this old paint, small amout left on outside. I used 60 and 240 grit paper.

Panel had several repairs done with ABS-MEK slurry, no reactions there.

Cracking is worse in other places, I gave this a second coat.

Unfortunately mate, your substrate, being rattle can is being attacked with the high solvent content in your primer. My best advice right now would be to wash off as much as will wash off with celly thinners and report back and we'll advise where to go from there.

Any chance that a quick sand on the reaction and knifing putty would protect it for the next coat?

I am trying to minimise solvent use, so I will just sand it all back fully if needed.

did you get all the 60grit scratches out ...nothing to do with crazing , but thats mighty fierce paper to use on plastics

Mostly, the paint was thick and I swapped to 240g when the white plastic began to show through.

Removing the old paint, you were right, primer was hiding plenty of deep scratches. Feels and looks smooth but maybe it would be a problem later.

I am still unsure what the cause was, type of paint (all rattle cans), or just that it was old? Do I need to remove all of yesterdays primer to avoid it happening again, or is it enough to remove the areas with the previous poundland paint?

Looks to me like the paints gone on too thick or over coating too quick and solvents havn't evaporated off
