1K laquer over 2k basecoat.

I am looking to sprat my cars bonnet and wings in 2k red basecoat.

I want to then give it a couple of coats with a scratch resistant clear laquer.

What I didnt realise until it was too late is the laquer is actualy 1K not 2k. It's not worth returning due to postage cost - its my mistake and postage would be half the cost of the laquer.

My question is can I use 1k over the top of my 2k paint or will it react?

wont react but its close to useless , wont last half as well as 2k clear will

keep the 1k for a garden project and buy some 2k for the car

I did my bike tank with single about 4 years ago and it's showing no signs of spoiling yet, how much longer do you think it will last ?

anyones guess...depends how much weather it see's etc

like for like the 2k will always be the better choice

The 1K could be used up and then final coated with some decent stuff, to save wasting it.

ok thanks for the replies best get on and order some 2K laquer then - ended up doing the rear brakes so no spraying done for now

Just as a second issue ;

I originally bought both the red and laquer in cellulose as I was reading that Two pack is best baked.
If only I had found out sooner that wasn't 100% the case - I have 1 Lt of red and lacquer (both cellulose) that I most likely will never use now

I also bought Cellulose filler primer - would two pack react if sprayed over this ? - tiny touch up repairs on the rear tailgate have reacted but not 100% sure if it was fully clean / de waxed/greased before spraying.

Your red celly should be ok for a colour coat as it's base coat and not D.G. Same principle as 2k polyester base coat, ie 1:1 paint:solvent thinner, flash off, clear.
