1986 Fzr 400

So, I finally gots round to stripping it today, as you can see the carbs themselves were very clean, no sticky floats as first though, but uh-oh I spy with my little eye something broken! At this point ive had a complete brain fart, so come on, what do i need to type into the Google machine to find it?

It's just a screw! Or at least according to Yamaha it is. Have managed to get a friend in America to send one out as apparently they are used in outboards too

Aggggh goddamn clutch ! Stupidly took the sprocket cover off as well as clutch cover, now can't get clutch rod to re engage

I seem to remember reading something about a clutch problem in umg magazine.

From memory, that screw holds the needle jet in the carb body, the jet pushes out the other direction.

I know fzr 1000s (all models from the first exup onwards ) always suffered with clutch drag even when new, not sure about the other models.

Worked the clutch issue out, it uses a cam to push a rod which operates the clutch, it relies on a daft little ball bearing to act as a thrust bearing, somehow it's managed to do a Houdini while I was freeing the clutch, how I haven't quite worked out yet as I was working on the opposite end at the time!

Yeah, after trying all sorts of names for it I tracked down the Yamaha parts manual, and it's literally just labelled "screw" helpfully.

Found the ball, it had dropped into a convenient hole in the clutch basket that was just the right size to make it look like te ball should've been in there !

So with some brass stock, 15 mins on the lathe and a bit of threading, I have arrived at this!

I could rob the one off the r1 but it's a good battery and I don't want to risk knacking it if the charging circuit is goosed
