here's the reason i need to learn how to weld

The car is fine, but needs a bit of TLC (and money ) to bring it up to really good condition that I like to keep my cars in.

as the restoration begins, this soon became...

the ball thing is old-school mercedes central locking. Basically it stores a vacuum as the engine is running, enough to lock and unlock the car about 5 times via vacuum. There is no electric pump at all in this model!

yeah they use like a rod mechanism that goes across the front of the car and move the wipers. also spray jets in the bumpers. the rod mechansim is siezed (common problem) and i need to renovate the motor etc before it goes back togetehr., The whole thing has to come off anyway for me to do the bodywork.

it will be lovely in the summer with the roof down.

i was thinking that.... but yet again i'v seen 190D's with 2.1l engines!

I know of a 1972 one which happens to have a 4.5 V8 fitted - very nice and it's for sale if anyone is interested!

280 engine is the one to have for longevity I believe. 450 is probably the one to avoid, especially at high mileages.

yes its the 2.8 straight six.

hopefully once i've practiced a bit with the welder i can start attempting the repairs needed on it. a lot of the welding work i need to do is unseen stuff (trim covers it up etc) so hopefully i will be able to do it even with my lack of welding experience.
