simple question is the battery in good condition?
Further more, the car was running, it passed its MOT and its taxed and insured, but now it wont start! After about 5 mins of running it just stalled and wound not start again, and hasent since.
Sounds like nothing has been disturbed so unlikely to be the timing unless the distributor's slipped due to a loose securing bolt.
More likely what's already been mentioned, failed component, so don't mess about, put a new set of points and condenser in first. For what they will cost you it's worth replacing them anyway so at least you know they're good.
A good indication of failed condenser is that the contact faces of the points will be burnt.
If it starts then great, if not then at least you've eliminated those from the fault finding and can investigate further.
yeh the faces of the points were burnt, pitted etc, so they have been replaced, but still no joy, keep looking i guess
Hello all, I have as the title suggests an Mg Midget that wont start and i was hoping for some advice
The engin its self is a Dollomit 1300 (can post pics if required)
The Batter is good just charged it
Fuel is getting to the Engin, the Pump is ok. The Carb is not blocked (all thought the gasket on the fuel resevour is leaking because some idiot damaged it when taking it off, however this is a problem for later.
Earth cables are all good, checked and cleaned them.
The spark plugs seems to be ok and are clear. There is a spark, but whether its firing under compression im not sure.
I tryed starting the car with some easy start, but this did not work either.
Further more, the car was running, it passed its MOT and its taxed and insured, but now it wont start! After about 5 mins of running it just stalled and wound not start again, and hasent since.
I think that it is an electircal problem, i cant see how the timing could have suddenly gone so wrong. Im off out to the garage to check out the condencer, as apparently its prone to packing up, and there is basic test i can do with the ohemmeter.
Does any one have any ideas as to what could be the problem, iv tryed to be very specific about the condidtions as well.
Any advice would be appreceated
Thanks
P.s. i know Sweet FA about old cars, every thing im learning iv been learning on the go over the last 2 months of having this car.. and until last week id never even seen the inside of a carb let along dismantled it and put it back together (with help of experenced friend) so please make any responces idiot proof
P.s. Thanks
