That's not the spirit that built the Empire !
No reason at all why the thing shouldn't be given the chance to do a very great deal better.
A mate took his D.1 plunger framed D.7 engined thing out around and about off-roading down a variety of trackways and byways around Epping Forest this afternoon, for around twenty five miles or so, and it cheered him up immensely.
Suddenly, the miasma of cold grey sludge dispersed.....

The bike could probably do it, but my knackered wrists couldn't, past 5 miles I start getting pins & needles and by the time I get to 10 miles my hands are so numb I can't feel them

Probably good advice coming from you, but does it really need it when it may do 20 miles in a year and will be mainly trailered to shows.

I hinted at it previously but, for a bike that's used that irregularly, it's really worth considering ditching the battery and either creating a direct lighting setup, or, even better, rectifying to DC, regulating to about 12v and using LEDs and capacitors. Yeah, the lights will dim to really low at idle but I really don't miss maintaining a battery and the light is actually adequate to see by.

Unless originality is a priority.
