Today. Check over the 1908 dsg as I haven't really done anything to it since I got it. I have the tailstock and cone drive. No gearset as yet...

So the bed has a regrind in its past. Underneath all that crud is a good bed. Yes there is pitting as you would expect given how long it's sat. I think I can get rid of 95 percent of it.

I restore them. Collect them. I have stuff everywhere. Not all of it is kept here. Have some rare beasts over my brothers place and other places.

A bit like me.
I get more a kick out of getting them up and running and fine tuning them than actually making things :laughing:

The satisfaction of getting my Brown and Sharpe 90 year old surface grinder up and running was reward enough. Then finding it is accurate to a hundredth of a thou was the icing on the cake. A 90 year old machine outperforming a modern one really made me smile!

To right. I aint a machinist. I can use a lathe..mill ect but definitely not a machinist. I enjoy the challenge of collecting them and restoring them. It's a very slow process.

I get it. Its big boys meccano really, I do it with boats there is nothing quite so satisfying as building a new or rebuilding an old wooden boat, when it comes alive for the first time. Same with steam engines, good machinery or fine quality guns.

Been slowly stripping down the dsg for moving it round the back. Straight forward enough just heavy...it also gives me a chance to examine parts and conditions. I did notice one problem that I will have to sort is the power feed gear and bushes are missing so I will have to sort this...

Do you know what pitch and size the gear set should be, I have a headstock of Holbrook which maybe of asssitance for gears !

lifes short , inbetween working to pay the bills why the heck not do something you enjoy , and the bonus is these machines are then still here in years to come , yes we wont be but a lot of them will be because of the effort put in .
