180 degrees access frame and cover

Hi i was wondering if anyone can please help me regarding making a hinged frame and cover to open at 180 degrees. i am having trouble finding a way to get it to come back the whole 18 degrees. i have seen a picture on google of what i want it to perform like but need a bit of help regarding the hinge. please see images of what i have so far and the product i want to hinge and have the same end result.

Working out hinge axis can be tricky. If you want 180 the axis needs to be on the outside. The easiest way to work it out is to draw the shape of the cover/door and whatever it needs to fit into and cut them out and use a pin or something similar to act as a hinge so you can play with different axis positions. Things can change a lot once you start swinging your door open and it rotates around the hinge axis so it's worth taking time to get it right.

Initially that's what I thought it had to be on the outside but looking at the products in the attached pictures, they are hinged inside

Some card templates, a piece of fibreboard/Cellotex/Kingspan and a drawing pin can help.

It looks like the one in the pic has the top of the lid overhanging the frame which could make hinge location easier. With the lid sat flush inside the frame like in the cad pic it may stop you being able to have the hinge on the inside if you want it to open 180 without straining anything and with a good tolerance for manufacturing, galvanizing etc. I think!

it definately is hinged inside, after scrolling through the internet i managed to find a drawing of this but when i sketch the geometry and the hinging it does not seem to work. anyone any ideas?

Looks like two pivot points connected by a linkage to me... so as you open the cover the linkage swings out on one pivot, bringing the other pivot outside the frame and letting the door open back around it.

A double hinge is what you need. Not the spring version though as that's different.

As said you need 2 pivot points on the hinge, I've done this a time or two, here's a quick general layout of how to do it
