16a to 32a tripping Help?

How many amps? 16, 20, 32, 40, are the normal options.

As you can tell, I don't really have a clue with what I'm doing or what I'm looking for when it comes to the electrical side of things...

no chance you've wired the plug up wrong ?

My mate who is some form of electrician wired it up by removing the 16a plug and fitting a 32a plug. I will need to strip it down and take some more photos.

Not an electrician but are you sure you have three phase electric. Would have thought the meter should have more connections, three in and three out

It has 4 in and out 4 out but one set is very small and only single insulated.
Looks like the typical rented farm type workshop setup, just works but wont meet any standards.

If it's a 32A C type it's unlikely to be the problem if everything's wired correctly, as said previously.

I have other 3 phase appliances including a tyre machine, 4 post ramp and Esab mig welder which all work fine.

Think you need to take the plug apart and check that the only connections are earth, L1, L2 and L3.

Is it making a ticking sound when idling. The scrs should do.
a wiring fault would normally trip on startup,way before striking an arc

I checked the plug again and it was wired up correctly, green wire to ground and the other three on L1-3 and nothing in the neutral.

Yeah, it turns on, the light illuminates and it ticks away. I put a welding rod in the holder, clamp the return lead onto a bit of steel then scratch the rod, it arcs on the steel then the breaker on both the machine and on the wall trip.
I'm tempted to try rewiring it for 240v to see if that would help.

I doubt that would help but its worth a try. Id take off the covers anyway and have a look around while youre there,check the 2 big caps,look for loose connections etc
the ones that cant be converted to 1x230 are pretty rare,ive only come across 1 i think.

If there's big capacitors inside, make sure you give them enough time to discharge before touching any connections.

As I said before, this is probably scr firing control issue.... get over onto weldingweb and ask on there...

I have a 300ss that comes on the digital readout works it makes the tick tick like always but just act like it set to the lowest setting.It just sparks like it doesent since load. Any body got any ideas
