165EN Voltage switch

Hi, my switch has started to play up, its making a crunching noise and hard to turn when changing in between 2-3 position, so its only a matter of time before it gives out on me i guess. Does anyone know where i can source a 6 position switch for said machine? its an older blue type welder on wheels, not the more new red ones. Ive had a look around on the net but cant seem to find a 6 position switch.

Normally I would say they are quite expensive for some machines but someone recently got one for there Sealey (?) from Sealey ! quite cheep <£20. That was a 6 position one if I recall. Look back through the posts as it was in the last 2-3 month.

Read through as you need to understand how the switch should work if you go with a different switch to the original.
I assume your machine is a bit like one of mine, see pics
Note be careful of using something like WD40 as the solvent in it can cause some plastics to crack. Also a lot of "switch cleaners" contain solvents.
If switch is same as mine then there is a spring and pin just behind the knob that gives the detent (click) as you turn the knob. If you remove the knob take care that this spring AND pin does not go missing!

Cheers for that, i did think about attempting to take the switch apart and see if a can fix it. which i might give a go before i source another switch, no harm in trying i suppose, or it might be the case of a bit of crap stuck inside it. The only switch ive seen so far is £75, thats not far off what i paid for the welder.

You might be able to JUST loosen the screws that go through the length of the switch and then try a clean. Worth watching the video in the other post to get an understanding of what is going on inside switch. IF you take the switch right off inc wires the LABEL them before taking off, the switch should have numbers and letters marked on it such as L1, L2 and note where the bridging/links go.

Yeah if its 6 post switch then i gather there is at least 6 wires going to it, id be labelling/taking photos of them before i took it apart. Cheers for that as as well, that vid is very helpful if i do decide to take the switch apart.

This was a sketch I did for some one that was trying to figure where the wires go after taking them of !!
I have added the brown and blue so you might understand how they switch the LIVE side via the rotary switch.
There should be on a 6 position switch, 6 wires plus 1 (min). 1 in and 6 out

There was someone on here that had a source of those switches if I remember correctly. Can't remember who it was, but it would be worth a search back through.

Cheers for your help and thanks for that link, i did have a search on ebay but didnt see that, will probably get one ordered, looks good to me and if it dont work, only £7 down the drain. Will have a search back on here to see if i can find that person.
