150TE v 151TE, whats the difference?

Morning all

I have a 150TE, that's seen better days, so looking to replace. Its been fine for the last few years, so no need to go bigger, better, etc, as it does exactly what it needs to do.

Machine mart list both the above at the same price, as well as other 15xxxx welders for similar money, so what is the differences, or is it just an updated version?

whats wrong with your old one? surely a service will be cheaper than just buying a new version of your welder?

or if you just feel the need for shiney-shiney things its your call (and wallet )

This MIG151TE model features a professional style, non-live torch which is a distinct advantage for the inexperienced welder.

When Clarke were working on the specification for this welder they took all the best features of the 150TE which Auto Express voted ‘Best Buy’, then put it all together in an new up-dated package with a hinged side door and a rotary power selector switch for even easier use.

sound like the 151 is just new clothes for 150 internals.

no personal experience but weldequip's gys smartmig is not much more expensive and sounds like an upgrade

From the horses mouth, they're the same spec, but a newer design, etc, so just new version of the 150 TE.

Reason for replacement is the one I've been using has been on semi permanent loan, on the basis that if it was a little sorry looking for itself when we had finished with it, I would replace like for like. Being as its been in our dusty workshop for 5 years, with lots of use, I don't see that as a bad deal. I get to keep old welder, mate gets new shiny one. Everyone's happy.

Weldquip's options may well be better, but used to this one now, know it can do everything I need and probably more, settings and stuff. Plus even more money, need to sort out full size bottles, etc.
