Out of interest, does he enjoy it? Seems like a decent enough mob with some interest gigs.

He does, even more so now that he can drive the lorry’s. He gets all over the country, repairing trucks, escorting the kit onto windfarm sites. If you’re keen ,they’ll encourage you and let you try new stuff. He put himself through the HGV test and the following week he was driving one of the HGVs down from Scrabster to Glasgow, under the watchful eye of another driver.

I've got a Bluetti AC180, and it's a good piece of kit.
I've had it for 18months now, the price has dropped considerably since. Bluetti had them on offer for £399 at the start of the year, along with their other similarly sized one.

However there's a chance that it won't be kept charged well enough using 12V alone. But it's not that much effort to carry it in and plug it into the mains.

I'm thinking of getting a 1500W inverter for the van to power phone chargers etc, it will also need to power my Tassimo coffee machine which is 1400W, what do I need to know and how are they installed?
It's a company van so I can't go drilling holes everywhere but a neat installation job would be fine.

I think if you did the sums it wont work for long, remember the battery can only give usable power until it falls to about 10v I think then its game over.

A car battery is designed to put out max amps for a few seconds at a time when you crank the engine.
I fear boiling a coffee maker for 3+ minutes constantly will over discharge your battery.

When I worked in rail a couple guys had them. Gas will be quickest and last ages.

Or spend 40x more on the power station.... Yeah does look useful - if they were a bit cheaper, I'd get one. I knew a guy that had one and could run most things off it.

The engine would need to be running, making the battery someone irrelevant, but a good way to cook an alternator, particually whilst stationary.

dont know what kit you have but do they do a same thing ? or 1x 5 amp battery plus charger and the coffee mechine would be half your cost expected and add this

i got one and suppised how much i use it for charging stuff and the battery lasts quite good for charging phones etc

get the lot for £200 quidish and you then have a battery start kit if you want to expand it

I couldn't remember of the top of my head what the newer version was called, but it's been available for a good while now.
They were both the same price for the first two days of the year, as I had the promo email about them.

Spec wise it would seem to be a replacement for the AC180, but if it was, I'd have expected them to have cleared all the AC180s months ago, or at least be selling them cheaper.

I would like an Elite 200, as it'll cover me for 90% of events without needing any external power, but can't quite justify the spend just now.

Modern alternators reduce output if they start getting too hot, and then if the battery voltage drop too low, the vehicle will start load shedding, and on something French, will likely trigger numerous faults.

Good reason not to own anything modern and definitely not french!

An electric car might seem a good option, but your range will drop in half. Wonder if many carry a petrol suitcase generator for emergency recharging?

I've not used one, but a silent petrol suitcase generator, would be a lot cheaper than the Bluetti?
