Looking for a 13/16 AF wrench needs to be quality as I may have to thin it down and nut has short flats not the normal engagement any sugestions

A place I do some work for as a bunch of old ex mod spanners knocking about I'll look next week, ( ex mod stuff will be decent makes) I assume you're talking an open ended spanner?

There is a Gedore 13/16" here if you want it, its quite thin on the open ended,

look for Sarwhillie , they are the thinnest about ,, also 13/16 is a spark plug size and they are thin wall sockets if you can get one in ,,,

Yes open ender will check what I can fit in the slot
Could I presume on you to run vernier over both ends of the jaw I really need a tight fit will take photo of part tomorrow

Yep no worries, I'll be there on Tues or weds and have a look round at what's available, bear in mind you can grind as much off the spanner as you need to fit the job. I've got lots of butchered "custom" tools I've mangled to fit some awkward thing..

13/16" is 0.8125". 7/16" BSW or 1/2" BSF a/f is 0.820". The latter is often approximated in this modern world as 21mm (scaffold fitting).

knew the spelling would be off ,,, yep , alloy steel and lighter and thinner than snap on , I bought a full set thirty years ago , well two sets actually , flat rings and deep neck rings , and they have been mighty , again they dont get used every day but wouldnt be without them.

Here are measurements you can see the fitt needs to be precise
With 195 th. Length of flat 270th.
800 to 810 th. across flats checked on 4 unit's
Alloy to steel both ends

why not just pick the nearest spanner you have one size down , and flap disc it till it fits perfectly , keeping it cool as you go . put it in your tool box as a special spanner.

Done that Tom after about 12 units they spread enough to slip, have a board of modified spanners and tools to make things easier.
This 13/16 has lasted longer than expected, but 1 slip is to many
This one was a tight fit but you have a 10th variation over the 4 on bench some latitude required.
Want to try a better quality wrench before chewing up a £20/30 one

wow ,, must be very tight fittings .
I wonder what they were put on with originally , maybe re-temper the next one although its always going to be a trade off.

If they are slipping by spreading, maybe it is because the width of material between inside of jaw and outside profile of spanner is not enough.

It would be possible to alter the way you modify the spanner to leave more material. Take off the minimum you need so it fits.

You could make one out of plate with cheeks twice or thrice as wide. If you make it with deep jaws, you can put pin holes in the open end for a cross bar that you add once it is over the object to turn it into a closed shape. Alternatively, if the outside is parallel to the jaws, you can put a clamp over the outside to stop it spreading.

Do you absolutely have to loosen it using the flats? Two pieces of wood with semi-circular grooves in them lined with rubber and clamped over the circular part to the right of the flats might have enough grip. If you can get to the far end of the round part, grip it in an ER32 collet (square or hex collet block) and use the collet spanner on the collet nut to loosen it.

Thought of the drill and make a closing gate with a screw to tension.
Weld a pair of extensions to cheeks so as to protrude beyond fittings,
being removed.
One end has to be washed with de greaser before fitting
Tube is a ram tube so no marks allowed oil and gas tight

Why do the hoses have to be removed so often?

My bodging thoughts.
When the hoses are off (like now) could you fit a male/female coupling on to the hose the next time so it can be split at the coupling.
If all else fails could you get a much thicker open ended 13/16 spanner and get just enough material machined off the side to let it slide onto the hose. That way you should still have a lot of material left on the jaws and less likely to splay open.

In fact thinking out loud as I write get a 7/8 spanner (or whatever fits) and weld it to the side of the 13/16 spanner, or even one each side, or a crows foot end that fits.

Why not ask the manufacturer of the part you intend using it on, if a regular thing, what spanner make they use ?

Looks Good @8ob only slightly to fat the less I have to take off the better, a friend has said he has something that might do can I keep you in mind please, especially if the jaw are true

As promised, I found a Britool, ex Mod version, so should be reasonable quality, the thickness of the Jaws is 9mm btw, yours gratis if you want it.

Had a talk to a chap in US he said the tool made for it does not live that long, so I will try the adjustable gate mod and see how it goes.
