12V DC Plugs and Sockets

I use an inverter regularly in the van to charge power tool batteries and other 240V AC stuff but I'm fed up with fiddling with the cigarette socket which is hit and miss plus gets really hot after about 30 minutes.
Any recommendations for a better solution?

The trouble is I can be in 3 different vehicles, the van, the 4wd or the tractor so it would be easier to just unplug the inverter and swap it into the vehicle I am using.
I envisaged a two pin non reversible socket I can hardwire into the vehicles then just plug the inverter in.

A hella din might be what you are after never used them but I've several fitted in my van (ex Thames water)

As above, get the din sockets. The plugs fit standard 'cigar lighter' sockets too.

Got you, you need [as suggested] anderson plugs in all the vehicles, and one on the inverter. They'll take far more amps than a DIN skt

exactly and the andersoon conector will allow u to plug more items in like jump leads, ect the world is ur oyster so to speak

Nema 5-15 are seemingly a popular choice as easily available and not approved for any "mains" supply use in the UK/Europe.

Are they the horrible us mains sockets?
I wouldn't want to put to many amps through them they always seem to be so lose fitting.

I would look at the purple 24v ceeform plugs, seem to be getting used more and more these days.

I needed a number of small Anderson plugs for a project which would have worked out expensive using genuine items. This was a non critical experiment so decided to buy some clones off eBay as fraction of the genuine price. They are extremely well made and an exact match to the genuine plugs. Obviously made in China hence cheap but I wouldn't hesitate using the small sizes as alternative to cigar lighter plug & socket.

I used to use Niphan plugs & sockets for low voltage applications when they were "readily available" from the foundry, rugged 7 reliable.

Cheaper option than the Anderson plugs, good for 90Amps XT90 connectors, if you only need 60 Amps XT60.

Go for the Anderson as most are suggesting, trouble free relatively cheap lots about, we have used them on race cars for as long as I can remember.
Forget the tractor sockets etc not worth the bother + connected to battery you can use as jump start, check the current draw to inverter can be surprisingly high

In use the din plugs and sockets instead of cigarette type rubbish. The din type don't overheat, I can be using them for over four hours straight. On my work truck I have one Anderson plug, never used them before. So far so good. Either would be good for your application
