how understated is that mini....you can park it anywhere and it will just fit in.

Im guessing that it was for a MOT even though its now exempt......got to say I think its a backward step with old cars not having to have them, for £50 Im happy paying that just for piece of mind.

That's a tidy one. I had a Mk 2 Cooper as my first car before it was written off - not my fault i hasten to add. What mods had it had to the engine John?

I've had two 1275gt midgets. The second one was mainly for the missus, lovely tin work compared to my first midget but the engine was tired. So we took it Downton engineering and had it sort of stage 2 tuned.

We didn't want it too top end but they knew what to do. It came back lovely. The new peco exhaust made the passenger football too hot for the dog to kip in after a long walk so I used to get 4 stone of snoring farting dog sat on me but the engine was a peach

That looks brill from memory the coulour will be almond green my first can was a Riley kestrel 1300 in the same coulour with a non standard engine

Almond green with the old English white roof. No air filter and a sport steering wheel but it looks straight and original otherwise, has it got the twin fuel tanks ?

Looks lovely, especially with those H4 SU's under the bonnet. The factory fit 1 1/4" carbs were really a bit small for a performance 1300 motor.

I had twin SU's 1 1/2" on my 1275GT but devil keeping them balanced so ended up with a 45DCOE and a 1400cc Avonbar engine pushing out 100 bhp at flywheel going through 10" wheels.

Every so often I look at old mini's and think about my first car, a 71 Clubman, that probably forced me to learn to weld ( to an amateur level) never mind changing subframes and engine repairs, and despite being 6'3" do not mind driving cars with limited cabin space. Read David Vizard's Tuning BL's A series engine cover to cover a few times....then bought an Escort Mexico. There is something about old Coopers though

As @slim_boy_fat says yes you can have a MOT done on a vehicle that is now exempt due to it's age.

Now another question for the MOT testers on here, if I take a MOT exempt car for a MOT and it fails I'm guessing it will then be illegal to use it on the road until suitable repairs have been done and it passes a re-test ?

I have a couple of vehicles that qualify as MOT exempt but you still have to maintain them in a roadworthy condition and if VOSA stop you and take to one of their test centres and you fail then you can be in a world of hurt.

My Avonbar was only 1380... It did have "Clubman 1000" badges on it and no stripes though (a bugler to peel off...), me and a mate in his duck-egg blue Mk1 Cortina (actually a lotus with a full-race twin-cam but no Clues to see) didn't half upset the Golf GIT drivers when they came out...

That mini looks a nice unmolested example, I am not surprised at the price being 45k just a standard mini fetches decent money now and vans and pick ups have gone into crazy prices, But i do love the old car smell and the how easy they are to fix.

Even years later the Vizard book is still a great tuning manual, Last year my mate built a morris minor engine from bits he had in storage, For an old school 1098 it pulls very well and sounds very sweet.

Mate of mine at school worked from Vizard's book putting together a 1275 Midget engine for his Minor, then bolted on a Shorrock blower - lively, it was
