110v concrete saw on a normal transformer?

Hi all,

sorry for not diong the necessary research.

Looking at these things for a particular job, and also I just like the idea of a gigantic angle grinder.

Can I run one of these on a normal 110v transformer?

Looks like it needs 32 amps, are those amps cut in half cos its 110v, on a 220v line.....

still seems like too many amps


Not talking bout the Husqvarna in particular, Makita make a similar saw as do Evolution.

It will be 32A at 110v, so 3.5KW.
Roughly speaking, you'll be pulling the same 3.5KW (a little more allowing for loss through the transformer) through the 230V feed so 3.5KW/230 = 15A. So I'd budget for a 20A+ (4.6KW) transformer to account for the startup load.

While ^^^ that info ^^^ is accurate, I think you're right to doubt this saw in particular needs 3.5KW.

Spec is available here, and it states;

So, 20A at 110V or 12A into the transformer

You might get a bargain if the incorrect info on ebay puts people off

The golden rule with 110v supplies go as big as you can afford or power on site. Volt drop leading to current rise is an issue.
I had a 110v chain hoist in for repair that was 'stalling on site'.
Looked it over tested it all ok hung from forklift and load tested still ok.
Went back out on site, came back with same fault.
Turned out it was on 3rd floor running on the end of about 80m of 1.5mm cable, the transformer was also running some site lighting.
voltage was 90v dropping to around 70v when the contactor pulled in the the motor started causing the contact to just bounce rather than latch.

The small workshop 3kva transformer will run a 9" grinder fine unless the odd time its on an extension right across the yard the 16a breaker trips after about 3 min's continuous cutting.

I wonder if they are dangerous with a 14 inch abrasive disk fitted, are the disks likely to shatter?

If grinders are dangerous, then this surely is taking it to extremes.

cant be dealing with those petrol engines, have no need or care to learn about how they work

if i was on the welfare, then i could make a case for it since id have time available, but im not, so i dont have the luxury of available time.

I've got practically the same saw, but 240v and made by hitachi

great for cutting concrete, prefer it over a still saw every time


but pretty useless for anything other than cutting stone/concrete, the blades spin pretty slowly, I don't know any numbers, just from using it... they're ok through a bit of rebar/mesh etc. but that's about it

probably much safer than a grinder, because of the slower speed, makes them easier to handle etc.

You'll be fine on a 3.5kva constant 5kva peak. Those saws have a soft start and if you overload them they fall into startup mode, which happens all too easily. I much prefer the older types of saw that you could horse the life out of, but they were easy to cook the windings.

my electric concrete saw is way slower than my petrol stihl saw

but I prefer the electric one for cutting stone/concrete every time

bought the electric one on ebay cheap after I used my mates and was impressed... I was going to buy a new one till I saw the £1400 price tag!

have a makita petrol one and that goes well, seems to be much less hasstel to start than stihl. for ultamate dangr and devatation i've got a air powerd one, hell that things got some serious power but it dose need a road compressor so it's not used much
