10mm steel with a holesaw ?!

Gonna be a long slog I know but a few 70mm dia holes to cut in some 10 mm plate
What u reckon my chances are . Got plenty of cutting oil and will be using a mains drill on slowish speed ,
Just gotta make a press to push in /out some wishbone bushes in situ on an Audi TT

Pillar drill would be less tiring?.

you might struggle with low speed on a hand drill, as diameter of the drill goes up, the torque to drive it gets reduced, and slower speeds dont help. its doable but might be a frustrating job to do.

Should work fine.
I put a few 50mm holes through 20mm plate with a holesaw and hand held drill.

If it' a good holesaw and drill has a 1st gear should be laughing bags.
Take it steady.
As said pillar drill would be better but its perfectly do-able

Can recall having to drill rather a lot of 60mm holes through 12 mm steel using the Bosch bimetal saws. To make it more interesting. 2 layers of 9x2 timber to go through each side sandwiching the steel. Very doable. Just take your time.

No pilar drill unfourtunatly , be using a 110v core drill jobbie so plenty of umph
Will let u know how long a hole takes

heres an easy way tried and tested

use the hole saw to cut the rubber out on the bush then if you can hacksaw a slot down the bush holding metal better with 2 but one cut is ample enough use hammer and chisel and drift out the metal circle until free a little easy oil helps once you drift a little

other than that ive seen set fire to them with a blow lamp

tried both ways

on advice told a garage fitter the above then tried it as used to drill out the rubber with just a drill bit however my way is much quicker

I think you may of saved me a whole load of time and hassle Gaz , especially as I can't find the drill

pick a hole saw that will cut out the rubber bush take out the drill bit as not needed and just use the hole saw you will need to hold it well untill it groves into the rubber after that just push on the drill i used a battery drill to do this then do other side as hole saw is not big enough keep pushing it and it will pop through pull back and push back in then it pops out of the suspension bar

then use a hack saw or reciprocating saw to cut a line through the metal bush holder once through chisel it out on one side until youve ripped a wedge out of the piece of metal if you want you can chisel out around it to give you a chisel base be warned your going to be hitting it hard

its easier if you can get 2 cuts on the metal shim pops out easily

there a mare to get out but my way is easier
