Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been welding for a few years now - and have been given a Clarke 100EN welder converted for use with gas.
It seems to be OK on VERY thin stuff like bike silencers i.e. normally things that are not worth welding, but I've been trying to do a bit of welding on my old car (18 gauge steel) and I can't get the wire speed right (regular cracking sound, either too fast or too slow) unless it's on full power and even then, it doesn't seem to have much welly, only just able to burn a hole in 18 gauge! I have tested the rectifiers and they seem to be OK.
I have another Clarke Welder and it is much easier to weld with, so I'm wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem, or what the problem might be, including in my head!
Any help / advice appreciated!
