keep an eye out for a cheap 107 , I cant think of cheaper driving ,,,, sometimes luck just runs that way for folk .

Beat me to it!I had a 107 and moved to an x front aygo ,,, as a wee run about I just wouldnt be without one .
I've just realised my current daily driver is a 2008 1.25 fiesta. I'm not liking the sound of all this. Luckily it had a new cambelt fitted just before I got it a couple of years ago, so hopefully I will be OK, but I won't be changing it again, and if it snaps or strips it's teeth I'll scrap it and buy something else.
For me even though it's 17 years old it's still a modern car to me, and I hate modern cars.

Its like anything else, if you get the tools to lock the flywheel and a appropriate tool to tighten to the specs, clean everything and do it by the book with a new stretch bolt, it will be fine.
Most reputable cambelt kits with stretch bolts come with the replacement bolts and for most cars you can get a locking kit cheap enough with advance warning.
Daughters 207 is friction fit on the lower camchain sprocket/hub -> crank. Same deal as P Remmington posted, big locking tool for flywheel, lock the cam timing in position with the specific tooling and out with the inch drive torque wrench I usually use on my jcb and follow the book proceedure with a new bolt. On that it was useful as some donkey had pulled the crank seal out the hub with the haynes "drill the seal and fit self tappers" method and nicked the sealing surface causing leakage, and in this case the crank sealing surface was part of the sprocket hub therefore could be changed. No more seal savers or bodges needed!
I often see 207 (bmw prince motor) 1.4 & 1.6 vti's with ruined engines for sale. And a few bent valves on them is even more catastrophic as you need another set of special tooling to strip and rebuild the 3 camshaft variable valve timing head. Its also car ending if the chain or guide snaps if the owner is trying to eek out service intervals or just plain not do it. All for 200 quids worth of new parts and tools and a bit of care.
I've never seen a interference engine spin or loose a belt and not bend valves or smash cam buckets. Though never worked on a fiesta motor fortunately.

The first and last one I did was many years ago, 1.9 diesel in a Renault 21. I found out the seller was telling porkies about having changed the belt when it snapped after a few months. Bent valves, smashed buckets. Fortunately it did it just as we were pulling into the driveway, not a few hours earlier on the motorway.
What I should have done was fitted a known-good head from a scrappy. What I actually did was try and rebuild the head, with limited tools and even more limited experience, on the driveway in January.
It went back together and I got it to start, eventually. But it never ran right, sold it for scrap in the end.

Lot of modern stuff - don't bend the valves - followers get smashed up - or hollow tubed cams get bent.
Or even worse - hollow tubed cams with lobes on factory alignment grooves - get pushed around a few degrees - that you just can't see on inspection.
This is why - the quote your garage will give you is so big/huge - as they don't wanna do the job twice - they will just quote/estimate/pour the parts into the job - for a first time fix....
