looking to weld 1/2” steel with a ARC200 welder. What amps should I set it to?
Every plant runs 6011 - even a cheap chinese inverterDoes this plant actually support 6011 rods correctly?
That sounds like a 7018 job to me. Is it a safety critical part? as it sounds like it is, its scary your having a go if so and i assume at 1/2" thick it isnt a house type followmehome sngle axel job either
Not great imo till put on cel setting, its just another stoving rod and i use them quite a lot.Every plant runs 6011 - even a cheap chinese inverter

The OP is the other side of the pond - 6011 and 7018 are probably all he's got access to.Not great imo till put on cel setting, its just another stoving rod and i use them quite a lot.
Entirely the wrong choice for a 1/2" plate weld
That’s just a weld I did on scrap metal to figure out what was going on. I’m trying to weld a jack into a trailer tongue.A photo of what you are trying to weld and one of the front panel of your welder, might/would prove helpful in this case.
Plus one of the welds that you have laid down so far on this job.
It’s just a jack to raise and lower a trailer into a 1 ton Ford. The welder was suppose to do 1/2” steel and run 6011 or 7018 rods. It’s 200 amp 60% duty cycle. I just never done stick welding.Does this plant actually support 6011 rods correctly?

I’ll take a look when I get back home thank you very much!Every plant runs 6011 - even a cheap chinese inverter

So will this welder and rods be sufficient? I have no issue learning and watching videos i just wanna make sure I’m headed in the right directionIf you have never stick welded before, get some practice in. Jody has a wealth of good videos on youtube.
Absolutely, there's no reason why a bunch of 1/8th 6011 and that inverter won't have that trailer jockey wheel welded on. As David said, you might get better results with 7018, but both rods are OK for the task.So will this welder and rods be sufficient? Clean the rust from the metal first and what size rods do you have?
